Improving Your Lung Health

It’s no secret that smoking damages your lungs to a great extent. Once you quit smoking, you will feel great relief and a newly acquired sense of cleanliness. The improvement spreads to all aspects of your life. Lungs are the most affected parts of the body as you smoke. Therefore you’ll need to find ways of improving your lung health and function after you quit. Here are some easy food, exercise and lifestyle steps you can take to improve lung functions and general body health.

Food and Diet

Smoking creates a process in you that may lead to kidney stones and eventual kidney failure. After you quit smoking, you should consider foods that can prevent this. The recommended foods include:

  • Green and leafy Vegetables and root based vegetables
  • Lemons, oranges, bananas, lemons, apples, and watermelons
  • Chestnuts and almond
  • Ginger, curry, and cinnamon are spices that will help

Your food should also include a lot of antioxidants. They eliminate toxins from the body, including your lungs. Therefor they’ll protect your tissues from damage caused by smoking. To start improving your lung health, include foods that are rich in antioxidants. They include

  • Vegetables like broccoli, sweet potatoes, spinach and artichokes
  • Fruits including blackberries, cranberries, blueberries and grapes
  • Other vegetables rich in antioxidants include walnuts, pecans, fish and green tea

Your body also needs an oxygen boost. This can be achieved by increasing chlorophyll in your diet. Chlorophyll helps in cleansing blood tissues and the blood in general.

Exercises

The entire body depends on your oxygen supply to remain healthy. Exercise also has a rewarding factor that pushes away and helps to manage to crave. Exercises aid in the production of endorphins which leaves a feeling of pleasure.

It is recommended that you dedicate 150 minutes of exercises every week. This translates into a 30 minutes workout every day for five days. The exercises could be moderate including gardening, aerobics, and walking. Swimming also counts. If you opt for vigorous exercises your minutes are cut by half. You will therefore need three sessions of 25 minutes each. It could include soccer, dancing, jogging, biking or cycling.

Take to outdoors if you have the opportunity. You will get incredible gulps of fresh air.

Deep breathing exercises have incredible benefits if you wish to improve your breathing and general body health. By learning how to breathe properly and deeply, you will be exercising your diaphragm. Your body posture also improves as a result of deep breathing exercises. Visit this video for further instruction – click here.

Lifestyle Changes

After you’ve quit smoking it’s important to avoid relapse, you need to be in a clean and non-tempting environment. Stay in a well-ventilated environment that is free of toxins like smoke and industrial waste. Open windows in the house and whenever possible sleep while they are still open. Keep your home and surrounding environment clean. Enjoy the company of good plants that release plenty of oxygen into your surroundings.

If you have to use homemade detox as an alternative, ensure that it is free of toxins like honey, herbs, menthol, and other inhalations. Always remember that your goal is to stay clean and avoid a relapse into smoking.

ART Corporate Solutions Testimonials

  • Although SCI has made efforts in other areas to reduce workers' compensation costs, our significant reduction in expenses is largely due to ART's program. OSHA VPP auditors called this program a Best Management Practice after auditing Sanmina-SCI.

  • In 2004 I was invited to a short seminar put on by ART. I was so impressed with the program that I was eager to find out more about it. Dr. Michael Leahy showed me the many ways that Active Release Techniques could benefit our company. I have certainly not been disappointed in what ART has to offer. ART has saved our company thousands of dollars in Workers Compensation Benefits, Insurance Premiums which helped us to lower our experience modifier rate.

  • ART has been a WIN-WIN program for LPR and its employees. Employees can utilize ART to free themselves of discomforts that they would usually just live with. Now, with ART, the minor discomforts are prevented from becoming serious. I personally, and other managers, have had successsful experiences with ART and will continue to spread the word of ART.

  • I feel the ART program is working extremely well and is definitely a benefit to our employees. The ART provider is very responsive to our employees needs and I have heard nothing but positive feedback from our employees.
